my first re-ment!

I bought two random boxes of Re-Ment's Kyoto ni Koishiteru series!

After my post office run, I dropped by xxx for a quick cup of tea. That's where I got the backdrop from (it's thin paper that they line their trays with). I thought it was pretty, so I folded it up and took it home for my photoshoot.
A quick introduction: Re-Ment is a Japanese company that makes high quality but inexpensive miniatures. They're not available locally so I bought two blind boxes online for (what I thought was) a fair price. They're both from a line inspired by famous Kyoto-made things such as sweets, souvenirs, and trinkets.

The first box I opened had the tenth set, which is a collection of three famous Kyoto food souvenirs. The set comes with a card that explains the origin and significance of each item, but as for assembly, you have to figure that out on your own. And if you're clumsy like I am, you'll have a great time knocking those little pieces out of their holders, putting them back, and knocking them out again.

These are sobabouro, which are buckwheat cookies.

Don't mind if I do, says Nyanko-sensei.

And these are yatsuhashi. I've bought a box of these once as a gift, but never tried one myself. My stupidity is tragic.

Senmaizuke are sliced and pickled radishes.

Not bad. I'd also like the set that has those little sweets and the teacup. As for the other box,

it was the fourth set, which is a hyoutan kaiseki-bento. According to Google, kaiseki ryouri is an expensive multi-course meal of many small dishes. The cheaper, smaller version of that would be the kaiseki bento.

I have no idea why the container is shaped like a hyoutan (gourd). My quick search only told me that some restaurants do offer hyoutan-shaped kaiseki bento for less than 2000yen. And I wouldn't recommend clicking that link if you're hungry.

Sensei graciously offers to share, but Nyanko-sensei couldn't eat another bite. So.

He has to eat everything by himself, and now he's in Despair.

The End. That was fun.
I'll adjust the original shots for my Flickr.
